Instructions
Step 1
Ingvar Kampard was born in 1926 in the Swedish city of Elmhult. His parents and grandparents were engaged in entrepreneurial activities. Ingvar himself from the age of 5 showed interest in trade and money. During his school years, he traded in matches, fish, lingonberries and Christmas cards. This experience was for him a real school of commodity-money relations, because Kamprad did not have a higher education.
Step 2
In 1943, Igward opened his first and main company - IKEA, the first two letters of which are taken from his name and surname, the third from the name of his father's farm, and the fourth from the church parish where he was a member. The company traded in fountain pens. After sales went up, Kamprad actively advertised it in local print media.
Step 3
After five years, Ingvar transformed IKEA into a furniture store. Before that, he often paid attention to the prices of furniture. In Sweden, it cost a lot of money and was a luxury item for many residents. The future billionaire began to buy the cheapest tables, chairs, beds. He gave names to each object, which was new in those days. It was this move that allowed IKEA to distinguish furniture from its competitors.
Step 4
In 1951, Ingvar acquired a small factory in Sweden. There he produced furniture at even lower prices. This was a big blow to other furniture companies. They started to put pressure on local suppliers who worked with IKEA. But it was the refusal of Swedish suppliers to supply furniture parts and workpieces to the company that brought Kamprad's brainchild to high heights.
Step 5
The Swede began purchasing furniture parts in Poland, simultaneously minimized costs and refused delivery. Thus, Ingvar achieved a decrease in prices for the company's products. In order for buyers to be able to deliver furniture home on their own, IKEA has changed its products dramatically, making it a team.
Step 6
In 1951, the first IKEA catalog was published. An important rule was that the prices indicated in the catalog were kept throughout the year. A year later, Kamprad paid a working visit to the United States, where he got acquainted with the Cash & Carry stores, which were located in the suburbs. The young Swede chose the same concept for his company. After a while, the first self-service IKEA stores opened on the outskirts of Stockholm.
Step 7
In 1963, IKEA entered the overseas market. In 1982, Ingvar left the company and transferred all his rights to the Dutch company INGKA Holding B. V. The reason for this was the high taxes in Sweden. In 2000, the first IKEA complex was opened in the Russian city of Khimki near Moscow.
