On the night of July 7, 2012, a flood began in the Krasnodar Territory. In Novorossiysk, Krymsk, Gelendzhik and several Kuban villages, buildings were destroyed, hundreds of people died, property was destroyed. It is difficult to calculate exactly what damage was caused to the population of the Kuban as a result of the natural disaster, therefore only approximate numbers were given.

How was the flood damage in the Kuban assessed?

According to the Finance Minister of the Krasnodar Territory, the flood damage in the Kuban can be estimated at 20 billion rubles, but this is only an approximate figure. The damage was first assessed based on data provided by insurance companies. A month after the flood, insurance companies received applications, the total payments for which exceeded 1 billion rubles, but applications from victims continued to come in further.

But the calculations based on the statistics of payments of insurance companies have a significant drawback: as it turned out, most of the property of the flood victims was not insured. Applications were mainly submitted by legal entities, as well as those who bought a house or apartment on credit and insured real estate. Relatively few people took care of property insurance in the Kuban, so it is impossible to even roughly estimate how much furniture, valuables, household appliances, etc. were destroyed, and what amount would be required to restore all items. However, it is known that the total payments at the request of people who have insured the property, according to the statistics of the Soglasie company alone, exceed 75 million rubles.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, during the natural disaster, about 7200 houses were destroyed, 171 people died, 18, 7 thousand people lost their property, all systems of road and rail traffic, as well as communications were disrupted. At the same time, according to Rosgosstrakh, only 260 private buildings were insured in all flood-affected villages and towns of the Kuban. The situation is different with car insurance, which turned out to be more popular: representatives of the Ingosstrakh company, according to preliminary estimates, will have to pay more than 44 million rubles in order to compensate the losses of vehicle owners affected by the flood.
