When in the summer we see an announcement of the upcoming shutdown of hot water at the entrance, we sigh and prepare the basins. And why do utilities turn off hot water, forcing us to heat pots on the stove and turn our bathroom into a kind of bath?
Over the years, people have become accustomed to scheduled shutdowns of hot water in the summer. Why is this done? This is a necessary measure in order to carry out preventive maintenance of hundreds of meters of pipes and fittings that are installed on the pipelines.
Houses built in the 20th century are equipped with pipes that cannot be called perfect. Under the influence of water, in which various bacteria and impurities are present, corrosion occurs in them. Unfortunately, stainless steel pipes are installed only in new buildings, and even then not in all.
So, in order to avoid a hot water cutoff, you have to live in a new, just built house? No, even in this case, with a high probability, the water will still be turned off for a couple of weeks. The explanation is simple: the mechanisms and fittings installed at CHPPs, central units and boiler houses should be regularly inspected and, if necessary, repaired. That is why in the summer, when the air temperature is high enough, the hot water supply is turned off. In the warm season, it is easier for people to wash themselves by heating water on the stove than in the cold. But even this circumstance does not diminish the irritation from the lack of water.
Of course, building redundant systems would be a great option so that people do not experience any inconvenience. Unfortunately, this method of solving the problem is economically impractical.
Contrary to the opinion of Russians distressed by the shutdown of water, such preventive measures are being taken in many European countries. But there is one important difference: European water companies do not want to suffer losses, and therefore seek to complete the renovation as quickly as possible. The craftsmen work around the clock, which allows you to complete the repair in two to three days. Good practice, isn't it? Maybe Russia will take an example from Europe one day.
