Tulips are one of the first spring flowers you can grow on your property. This plant propagates by bulbs, which, before they please you with luxurious bright flowers, must overwinter in a garden bed, planted in the ground.
Necessary
- - urea or ammonium nitrate;
- - organic fertilizers;
- - potash and nitrogen fertilizers.
Instructions
Step 1
In order for the bulbs to root well in the open field, its temperature should be 9-10 degrees. Therefore, they are planted in the fall. For the middle lane, determine the landing date at the end of September - the very beginning of October.
Step 2
Prepare the soil for planting tulip bulbs in advance, in spring. Dig it to a depth of 30-35 cm and apply organic fertilizer based on how fertile the soil is. Do not use fresh manure as fertilizer; it can be applied no later than a year before planting. Dig up the soil a second time a month before planting the bulbs. The depth of the excavation is 20-25 cm. Depending on the type of soil, use mineral or potash fertilizers. For light soils, the percentage of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium is 6, 18, 18, and for heavy soils - 12, 10, 18.
Step 3
Vary the planting depth depending on the diameter of the bulb. Dutch flower growers who grow world-famous tulips recommend a planting depth equal to three bulb diameters. Before placing the onion in the dug hole, pour sand into it and bury the onion in it. This will protect it from pests and diseases. Mulch the garden with a layer of humus 5-10 cm thick.
Step 4
Before the onset of frost, cover the planting with a thick layer of spruce branches, when it snows, cover the bed with snow.
Step 5
Once the snow has melted, the soil needs to be fed. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of urea or ammonium nitrate in a bucket of water. This amount should go to one and a half square meters of soil. It can also be poured with well-diluted slurry. You can feed the soil even during the snow melt by simply scattering fertilizers over the snow, they will dissolve and be absorbed along with the melt water.
Step 6
When the first buds appear, add phosphorus and potassium to the soil. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of superphosphate in a bucket of water and pour this solution over 1 square meter of soil. Repeat this dressing one and a half weeks after the start of flowering.
