All types of geraniums (pelargonium, crane) reproduce by cuttings, splitting of rhizomes and seeds. It is best to plant in the spring, although geraniums are capable of multiplying all year round.

Instructions

Step 1

Cut a stalk at least 5-7 centimeters long from the lateral or apical shoot. There should be 2-3 leaves on the handle.

Step 2

Leave the cutting outdoors at room temperature for several hours before planting. Sprinkle the cut with finely ground charcoal.

Step 3

To bloom abundantly, choose a flower pot that is not too large.

Step 4

Provide the plant with good drainage (use small pebbles at the bottom of the pot) to keep the geranium roots from rotting. For the same purpose, regularly loosen the soil, providing air access.

Step 5

The soil should be only slightly damp when planting. Use regular garden soil with added sand. There is also a special nutritious soil on sale for growing geraniums.

Step 6

After planting, carefully water the soil so that water does not get on the stem and leaves, as the cuttings rot easily, especially if the temperature in the room is low. Do not water the plant too much and often: with excess water, geranium blooms worse, its appearance changes.

Step 7

During the period of active plant growth, use special fertilizing - growth activators.

Step 8

A large plant can be propagated in another way: divide the rhizome into parts so that in each part there are shoots and buds.

Step 9

Geranium grown from seed blooms more abundantly than cuttings. To sow seeds, prepare the soil: scald it with boiling water and a solution of potassium permanganate. Spread out the seeds and sprinkle with a thin layer of soil. Cover the container with plastic wrap or glass.

Step 10

Open the film regularly to remove moisture condensation. After seed germination (after 7-10 days), remove the film. Transfer the seedlings to another pot after 6-8 weeks.

Step 11

When planting geraniums in open ground in a garden area, wait until the threat of frost has passed. Transplant the geraniums into pots in the fall and keep them as a houseplant.
