"Horror" from the series "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" keeps the viewer in suspense throughout the film. But if you know how it was created, remember that the villain is actually an ordinary actor, then watching "horror" will not be so scary.
Compassionate with the "Leatherface"
The first film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, was released in 1974 in American theaters. This "slasher" (horror) was banned in several countries. Still - from the sight of bloody hooks, a freezer with corpses, furniture made of animal bones, the viewer became creepy.
But people would have contemplated this horror film more calmly if they remembered that these were just fake objects, and the characters were actors. They could even feel compassion for the main villain, nicknamed "Leatherface", if they knew how hard it was during the filming.
The fact is that little money was allocated for the picture, so there was no talk about the comfort of the actors. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was filmed in Round Rock, Texas, during a hot, humid summer. The temperature reached + 35 ° C.
The main action took place in an old farmhouse, there was not even ventilation here. The shooting day lasted 16 hours. Other actors were more fortunate than the one who played the role of a maniac killer. He was dressed in a heavy robe soaked in paint, a thick mask on his face. In this form, in a stuffy house, it was not easy for him to act.
Therefore, now those who want to see this motion picture may not be afraid, but feel sorry for the main villain. After all, the actor who created his image had a hard time.
Contemporary film
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, filmed in 2006, is different. The pavilion footage was recreated at the well-maintained Austin Studios. Part of the filming took place on location (nature). Here, the latest equipment was used to create a frightening fog.
But the stunt scenes also demanded masculinity from the performers. Matt Bomer, an actor who played the role of one of the brothers - Eric, himself participated in all dangerous scenes: he jumped from a jeep, hung on his arms in a barn. They put a bag over his head when the main villain tried to strangle him.
A real building was chosen to recreate the slaughterhouse. Experts added several outbuildings and artificially aged it. The carcasses, of course, were not real, but fake.
The chilling scene of Eric's murder by "Leatherface" will not cause so much horror in the viewer if he knows that it was not an actor who participated in it, but a doll made in his likeness. The blood was artificial. A specialist reproduced the movements of the doll using the remote control.
Taylor Handley, who played the second brother, Dean, was also not hurt. In one of the scenes, he was attached to cables, and the main villain, played by Brynyarski, attached a model of a chainsaw to him and held the actor in a static position.
A dummy saw tip was attached to Taylor Handley's chest, as if it was going through his body, and a real chainsaw cut through the body of the stunt doll.
