"House of the Sun" is a director's work by Garik Sukachev based on the book by Ivan Okhlobystin. The cast is no less interesting and extraordinary than the duet of authors, as well as the result of their work. The film has generated a lot of controversial reviews, but its popularity is undeniable.
The plot of the film takes the viewer away in the days of hippies, the first concerts of the legendary group "Time Machine", the peak of Vysotsky's popularity and the premiere of the film "Generals of the Sand Quarries". The capital of Russia was seething with passions at that time, no less than in the current years. But the atmosphere was completely different, like people, like their interests, characters. The cast and filmmakers managed to convey all these nuances with such precision that even representatives of the youth of that time speak warmly of the film, despite its slightly philosophical and harsh essence and background.
Geography and history of filming
The film "House of the Sun" was filmed in Moscow and Crimea, and Balaklava, Kerch and Karadag were included in it from famous Crimean places. For the filming of the crowd scenes, local residents were invited, who did not undergo any preliminary training, but simply put on costumes and performed the necessary actions from the first take, under the guidance of assistants, cameramen and the most eminent director. All of them fondly remember their acting debut and especially note the kindness of the film crew and the extraordinary friendly atmosphere on the set. And dressers say that a couple of times they had to dress more than 300 hippies instead of 30-40 hippies, and in a couple of hours they solved the problem with costumes for extras.
There was practically no need to create scenery, especially on the set in the city of Kerch. Most of the scenes were filmed in the so-called ship graveyard, in city parks and just outside. Only a few scenes required artificially crafted house walls, lightly decorated by the film's artist.
The shooting of the film was financed by the legendary company "20th Century Fox", of which its director is very proud. According to him, initially the representatives of this master of the film industry were attracted by the storyline about the hippies, but in the process of work they summarized the picture as a drama about love and the essence of the human soul.

The cast of the film "House of the Sun" is impressive - the most famous and eminent representatives of the profession are gathered here, along with little-known ones. The interest in the film was so high, even before the start of filming, that there were no refusals of the performers from the roles. Moreover, both the masters of cinema and newcomers to the profession coped with the task equally well. According to the performers of the main roles, the director, before filming a particular plot, forced to live these moments, to plunge into the atmosphere of that time. And examples for imitation and immersion were not only shots of fictional and documentary years of the 70s of the last century, but also trips by "hares" on electric trains, overnight stays in the mountains, a detailed study of the culture and philosophy of the "hippie" movement.
