Often there is a need to light a cigarette, light a candle or a fire, and there are no matches. But the use of matches is far from the only way of producing fire invented by mankind.

Step 1
Although lighters have been mass-produced for almost a century, it is only in the last two decades that they have overtaken matches in popularity. They use two methods of generating a spark: piezoelectric and mechanical. To light a piezoelectric lighter, point it with the burner up, then press the button. Its mechanism is designed in such a way that when the button is pressed, the valve first opens, and only then the piezoelectric element is triggered. Light a lighter with flint in a slightly different way. Also point it up with the torch, then bring your finger to the button so that it touches the wheel at the same time. Make a sharp downward motion by simultaneously scrolling the wheel and pressing the button. In this case, it is important that after pressing the button, the rotation continues for at least a moment. Do not keep any of the lighters lit for more than thirty seconds.
Step 2
It happens that one lighter runs out of gas, and another has a lot of it, but the piezoelectric element or flint is broken. Then bring the burners of the lighters close to each other. Open the valve on a lighter with fuel left in it, and on one with a working ignition mechanism, immediately give a spark. The first lighter will light up.
Step 3
Petrol lighters do not have buttons. Open the lid on it, then turn the wheel and it will light up. To extinguish it, close the lid (also no later than thirty seconds).
Step 4
Everyone knows that in sunny weather you can burn with a magnifying glass. But not everyone knows that, unlike burning out, not every magnifying glass is suitable for obtaining a flame. Namely, it must be at least 10 centimeters in diameter. If you can't find one, use a shaving mirror. On the one hand, it is flat, and on the other, it is concave, and therefore focuses light well. By the way, it is for this reason that such a mirror must be stored in a place where sunlight cannot get.
Step 5
If you don't have a shaving mirror, but any transparent ball-shaped vessel is available, fill it with water and use it instead of a lens to focus the sunlight. Then be sure to pour the water out of it.
Step 6
Many people think that it is possible to light a cigarette from a soldering iron - except for those who have already tried it. The temperature of its tip, which is 260 degrees, is not enough to ignite the paper. But if you have not only a soldering iron, but also a hot air gun, try to bring the cigarette under the air flow coming out of it - it will light up.
Step 7
Use a cigarette lighter to get fire in the car. Plug it into the appropriate socket on the dashboard and press the button. When the coil heats up in it, it will rebound automatically under the action of a bimetallic spring. Immediately pull it out by the button and press the cigarette on the still-hot spiral.
Step 8
Do not try to get fire by friction without preliminary preparation - practice shows that no one succeeds the first time. Try to acquire this skill in advance, and in the future it can save your life in an emergency, where the only way to be seen from the plane is to light a fire. Step 9
Take a steel wool. Pull the thin wire out of it, and then, carefully so as not to burn yourself, connect it to any battery, except lithium. The wire will heat up enough to ignite the paper and then burn out.
Step 10
Many smokers complain that they cannot quit their addiction. If this is your situation, get an e-cigarette. It is also harmful to health, but to a lesser extent. In addition, it does not require lighting, since it turns on automatically at the moment of tightening, and turns off after stopping use.
