Step 1

Step 2
Dip the gem in a glass of water. A real diamond will become invisible for a moment.
Step 3

Step 4
Dip the diamond in hydrochloric acid solution. After you remove it back, there will be no traces on the real jewel, while the synthetic gem will be covered with spots.
Step 5
Turn on the quartz lamp. Bring the diamond piece underneath. A faceted diamond will emit a yellow-green or blue glow.
