Thoroughly clean the small surface of the silver piece and smear it with iodine. It is advisable to do this in direct sunlight. Silver darkens from iodine in the sun. If no changes have occurred to the product, then you are the lucky owner of a fake.

Make a small scratch on an inconspicuous place on the silver item. If it is counterfeit silver, then a thin silver film will slide off and a reddish metal will show through underneath. True, in this way you can only find a fake made of brass.
Step 4
Dip the silver ring in boiling water for just a second, and then gently touch it. If the silver thing is barely warm, then it means it is a fake. Silver heats up almost instantly.
Step 5
Rub the silver with regular school white chalk. If the chalk has not changed color, then you have a fake in your hands. After contact with silver, the chalk turns black.
Step 6
Bring the silver thing to the silver. If it is a simple metal fake, then it will stick to the magnet.

Try bending the silver piece, for example, if it's a spoon or a thin box lid. A thing made of silver should bend easily and not spring.

Spread the product with ordinary sulfuric ointment. You can buy it at any pharmacy. Wait a couple of hours and then remove the ointment with a tissue. If the product has not changed color or has acquired a reddish tint, then this is a fake. Silver after sulfuric ointment turns black.
