But the weight of a real pearl will be different. Natural stones weigh more than fake pearls - take a piece of jewelry in your hand and appreciate its weight.
Step 2
Assess the structure of the stone. Natural pearls do not have a perfectly flat surface - in the process of their "birth" the bead is covered with layers of mother-of-pearl unevenly, and the base of the stone (grain of sand or other foreign body) is rarely smooth and regular in shape. You can run your hands over the surface of the stone or place it against your teeth to assess texture and shape. The smoother the pearls are, the more likely they are to be considered counterfeit products.
Step 3
Examine the holes in the beads. In order to connect the stones in a necklace, they need to be pierced, forming small holes. The edges of these holes can "tell" about the nature of pearls - a layer of the basic material (glass or plastic) can be discerned in stones created by man, while natural pearl balls do not have this defect, no abrasions and barely noticeable layers of unequal thickness.
Step 4
Throw rocks on the floor. A real product of the activity of mollusks, hitting a hard surface of a table or floor, will jump high. Fake stones are more likely to roll or even get damaged (depending on the force of the impact).
Step 5
Look at the price tag. Natural pearls are expensive - the costs of obtaining them are too high compared to the costs of the technology for the production of artificial balls. No promotions announcing the sale of pearls at discounted prices will be justified - this is just a marketing ploy to increase sales of fake pearl jewelry.
Step 6
See the decoration in the light. Glare from stones can be very diverse, it all depends on the natural shade of the pearls. But light stones of natural origin will always shine with a light blue color, and artificial jewelry can glare with greenish, pink flashes.
