Determine the tasks that the milling machine should perform in your workshop. If you intend to grind small-sized parts, choose a small-sized machine. If we are talking about setting up the production of large metal parts, then you need an industrial-sized machine.

The name often reflects the peculiarities of working on the machine, the way the workpieces are processed and the functions that the machine is able to perform. Knowing the function that you have to carry out during processing, it is easier to make a choice in favor of one or another machine.

Make sure the machine you are choosing supports the required milling format. Milling cutters can be of various types, and not every one will fit a particular machine. The most commonly used cutter is in the form of a gear wheel. They are usually made from tough alloys, but some tools are made from regular mild steel. The type of cutter must correspond to the capabilities of the equipment on which it is supposed to be used.

One of the essential characteristics affecting the choice of milling equipment is the size of the working field of the machine. The smaller the working area, the less bulky parts can be processed. For medium-sized production, a machine with a working area of 1200x1200 mm and with T-slots for convenient and quick fixing of workpieces is suitable.

When purchasing a milling machine, pay attention to the current consumed by it, the operating voltage and the power of the device. Industrial types of equipment often require a voltage of 380V, which is not always possible to obtain in a domestic environment. For such a case, provide for the possibility of re-equipping the power supply system of your workshop, which will require laying the power cable and installing additional automatic protection.
