Along with buying a car, you get a lot of problems. Now you have to monitor the health of all spare parts, the sounds that the car makes, the quality of the car oil, etc. The last component is especially important for the reliable operation of the vehicle. The main function of the oil is to resist the friction of the internal elements of the engine.
Instructions
Step 1
There is a wide range of oils on the automotive market. It is almost impossible to make this substance truly of high quality, with all the technical properties and stable characteristics.
Step 2
Before buying a particular automotive oil, carefully read the specifications and requirements of the engine. The fact is that the temperature of the coolant is indicated on the dashboard. As for the heating of the oil, it is very difficult to track it. Sometimes this figure reaches 140-150 degrees, which affects the operation of the engine.
Step 3
Look in the data sheet, which parameters the manufacturer of this vehicle considers the most optimal. Pay particular attention to the viscosity of the vehicle oil. Oil viscosity refers to the ability of a given substance to remain on the top surface of all internal engine components without interfering with their movement.
Step 4
So, after reading your car manual, you know which oil is best for your car. Go to the store and take a close look at the labels. Most of the companies that manufacture these products indicate the viscosity level on the packaging.
Step 5
Find the abbreviation SAE, after which the viscosity of this oil is indicated. In particular, it is denoted by the letter W, a dash and a few numbers. In most cases, motorists use standard 5W-30 multigrade oil. This means that this fluid will meet all the requirements of the engine at temperatures up to 35 ° C (to calculate from the figure in front of W, subtract 40).
Step 6
If you want to check the viscosity of a previously used car oil and find out if it's time to replace it, then you can do it in the following way: - take a funnel with a narrow hole (about 1 mm);
- pour into it fresh oil of the brand that was poured into the car engine earlier;
- count the number of drops that fell down in the allotted time;
- Drain some oil from the engine;
- pour the resulting liquid into a similar funnel;
- count the number of drops.
