Before you buy a separator, consider the amount of milk yield on the farm and determine what capacity you need. Most of the machines on the market are capable of processing fifty or eighty liters of milk per hour. As a rule, simple separators are purchased for a farm with no more than three cows. The owners of large farms will need more productive units.

Separators for milk are divided into two types: manual and electric. The indisputable advantage of the manual separator is operation without the use of electricity with the same degree of milk purification from fat as in the electric analogue. The latter, in turn, does not require the application of physical effort. However, the motor of such a device, which is sensitive to voltage drops in the network, may fail. In terms of performance, manual and electrical devices do not differ much from each other. They, equally spinning the bowls, perform up to ten thousand revolutions per minute.

When choosing a manual separator, take note of what material it is made of. It is believed that a metal device is stronger, but with proper handling, a separator made of quality plastic will last just as well. In addition, a manual-type metal separator may not be very convenient.

Another important parameter is the size of the bowl. Most models have a capacity equal to five and a half liters. Considering that the capacity of the separator is eighty liters per hour, it becomes clear that milk will need to be added every four minutes. That is why a machine with a bowl capacity of twelve liters is preferable.

When choosing an electric separator, pay special attention to the motor. It must be reliable, durable and resistant to voltage surges in the network. It is desirable that the device be equipped with a special protection system.
