The lambda probe is an oxygen sensor that is an integral part of exhaust systems. In order for it not to fail, it is necessary to install a snag. Its characteristics and types will allow you to choose the most suitable model, which will contribute to accurate control of the oxygen content.

Characteristic

Lambda probe is an integral part of exhaust systems that have an environmental standard of at least EURO-4. Thanks to it, it is possible to control the oxygen level before and after the catalyst. It should be noted that the lambda probe is not repaired. If it becomes unusable, it has to be replaced with a new part. Usually errors such as PO167-PO130 indicate this need. That is why it is necessary to take care of it.

In order for the engine not to go into emergency operation due to a breakdown of the catalyst, it is necessary to monitor the fuel consumption and correct the signal from the DC. This role is assumed by the snag. If the car complies with EURO-4, then the exhaust system will contain at least two lambda probes, one of which is before the catalyst, and the other after it.

In total, three types of trompe l'oeil were invented: electronic, mechanical and electronic stimulator for the operation of the lambda probe. They differ, first of all, in price. Mechanical snag is the simplest, therefore the cheapest. It is usually made of heat-resistant steel and is capable of withstanding 650 ° C.

The essence of its work lies in the ingress of exhaust gases into the volume of the spacer through a small hole. In its volume, excess CH and CO are oxidized by oxygen, as a result of which its concentration decreases. This changes the sinusoids of the signal, and the electronics thinks that the catalyst is operating normally.

The other two types are functional and hardy, but their cost is too high. Electronic snag is designed to ensure correct operation of the engine control when the catalyst is removed or defective.

We can say that such a snag is a single-chip microprocessor that knows the situation that occurs with the exhaust gases when the catalyst passes. As a result, it processes the signal supplied from the initial oxygen content sensor, and generates a signal similar to that supplied by the second sensor with a working catalyst.

It is best to choose mechanical blende, because it contains a platinum-rhodium catalytic element, similar to the matrix of the original catalyst. Thanks to this, the probe's sensor receives information about the air-fuel mixture that meets the global environmental standards.
