Falling buckets into a well is quite common in rural areas. Therefore, many villagers have a special device for this case - a "cat". It is easy to make it from scrap materials. There are other ways to retrieve a drowned bucket.
How to get a bucket from a well using a "cat"
In the old days, buckets were taken from a well with a horseshoe to which a rope was tied. This method is laborious, requiring a certain skill and skill. Later, they came up with a tool capable of picking up and pulling a bucket drowned in a well to the surface - a "cat".
It is made of iron bars and looks like an anchor. A long strong string is tied to the "cat", the tool is lowered to the bottom and gently moved from side to side, trying to find the location of the bucket. After it is possible to find out where it lies, the "cat" is raised and lowered, trying to pick up the handle of the bucket with one of the ends of the "anchor".
You can make a "cat" from a large fishing hook, but in this case you will need a weight tied to the end of the same rope as the tackle. You need to pump out the water from the well, take a powerful flashlight and try to remove the bucket.
How else can you get a bucket out of the well?
The bucket in the well can be picked up with a fork, the teeth of which are bent in different directions like a hook. It should be noted that this tool is quite heavy, so you need to tie it to a strong rope.
Some villagers, in order to get a bucket from a well, do this: a rubber adapter (in the form of a plunger) with a diameter of no more than 20 cm is attached to the suction pipe of a powerful submersible pump. Then they turn on the pump and try to find the bucket. If this succeeds, the apparatus is gradually raised along with the loss.
Most often, the bucket in the well is located with a cone downward. This moment can be used as follows: make a wooden blank, the diameter of which is a couple of centimeters less than the diameter of the top of the bucket. Fasten a rather large weight on the blank and lower this device into the well. Lowering and raising the tool, you can get into the bucket. The blank will get stuck in it under the weight of the load, after which the tool is lifted to the surface.
The easiest way to get a bucket out of a well is to use a magnet. You can use it to try to lift the handle of the bucket. Having done this, you can pick up the bucket with an ordinary rake. But in this work you will need an assistant.
Another option to remove a bucket that has fallen into the well is to use a device that resembles a landing net. It is easy to make it yourself from a piece of wire and a piece of fishing net. To make the net "work", a small weight is attached to its lower part.
