Taking country walks in the warm season, you can pick up a lot of wildflowers - for a herbarium, or just to give them to a girl. The wild flora is so diverse that many amazing flowers and plants by their name are even unknown to you. And if suddenly there is a desire to get to know the voiceless inhabitants of the fields closer, you have to turn to the help of reference literature.
Necessary
- - a sample of a flower or flowering plant, the name of which you want to know;
- - school atlas-determinant of higher plants (Moscow, "Education", 1985 or 1991).
Instructions
Step 1
Take the school atlas of higher plants, designed for children, and therefore simple and easy to use. If the scientific classification of plants is not well known to you and you have no time to understand its system, then the search for a flower by name can be simplified to the limit thanks to this reference publication. We will probably be able to solve our problem in two simple ways.
Step 2
Scroll through the identification atlas and you will see that it is provided with numerous illustrations - drawings of plants. It is quite simple to find its family by one or several morphological characteristics of a flower. But even if you do not do this, you can quickly find the flower you are interested in (in the illustrations, almost all plants are presented at the flowering stage). Scrolling through the guide, you will see that the pictures emphasize the characteristic features of each flower and it is quite easy to recognize it.
Step 3
Use the second way to find the name of a flower - look at the alphabetical index of names at the end of the book. If you have any guesses as to what kind of flower you found during a walk, then you can easily check the accuracy of these guesses. Find the proposed name in the alphabetical list and open the corresponding page - you will see a detailed description and a drawing on which the flower is depicted.
Step 4
Try to make a start from the similarity of the desired flower with its closest "relatives", if you cannot immediately find it among other plants. If it somehow resembles a cornflower, look in the Asteraceae family to which the cornflower belongs, which means, most likely, the flower that you are looking for also belongs. Identifying plants requires some skill, which is quickly developed, and if you search for plant names from time to time, it will gradually become easier and easier for you to identify the next flower.
