The assassination attempt on Valiulla Yakupov was committed a little earlier than on the Mufti of Tatarstan, and Ildus Fayzov already knew about it when he was returning from the radio station in his car. According to him, after one of the intersections, he decided to stop and call on his mobile phone. After the car stopped, the mufti heard the clap of an explosion and was thrown out of the car by the shock wave. At the same time, he received fractures of both legs, but avoided life-threatening injuries. Perhaps Ildus Faizov was saved by the fact that he did not use the seat belts. Later, the supreme person of the Tatar clergy was taken to the Republican Clinical Hospital of Kazan.

According to the representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the mine was fixed under the bottom of the car, and after the first explosion two more followed. There were no guards in the car of the republic's supreme cleric or escort vehicles. In the course of actions "hot on the trail", the investigators managed to establish that another car was continuously following the mufti's car, which, after the explosion, disappeared from the scene of the terrorist attack. Its driver was identified and detained - it turned out to be Abdunozim Ataboev, a citizen of Uzbekistan. In addition to him, four more citizens of Tatarstan were detained in the following days. One of them, Rustem Gataullin, is the head of the Idel Hajj organization, which organizes the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. Police said he threatened the Mufti of Tatarstan when he suspected some kind of fraud with the company's cash flow. Another detainee, Murat Galleev, is the leader of one of the parishes, and two more are residents of different regions of the republic.

The representative of the Investigative Committee has not yet reported on the existing versions of this crime and does not say that the attempt on the life of the Deputy Supreme Mufti and the explosion of the car are part of one criminal plan. Valiulla Yakupov was shot when he was leaving the entrance of the house, but he managed to get to his car, where he was found.
