Burgas is a large city in Bulgaria, the fourth in terms of population. Perhaps it is because of this that the terrorists chose him as their target. On July 18, 2012, a bus carrying Israeli tourists was blown up at the airport of this beautiful city. Seven people were killed, including the bus driver and the terrorist himself.
On July 18, at the Sarafovo airport, a bus was waiting for tourists from Tel Aviv. The travelers' luggage was already loaded, dispatch was expected any minute. Some of the passengers were in the cabin, some people were standing next to it. And a very small group was still in the airport building. A white-skinned man with long hair went to the luggage compartment of the bus and, taking out several suitcases, put his bag there. This caused discontent among tourists. Some of them approached the man and began to demand from him to take their bag.
At this time, the bus was filled with people, because in just a few minutes he was supposed to go to the Bulgarian resort of Sunny Beach. According to the victims, the salon was almost full. Most likely, the terrorist was counting on him to stay alive. He planned to put his things, which contained an explosive device, and go to a safe distance. But tourists prevented him. As a result, the terrorist was forced to blow up the bus, being in the immediate vicinity of him. Authorities say the mechanism was powered by a remote device.
The explosion killed 7 people, more than 30 were injured (including two Russians who were nearby). Two buses, which were parked near the scene of the attack, were also damaged. On July 22, 2012, information appeared in the press that an unknown group, Kedat al-Jihad, claimed responsibility for the explosion. Previously, suspicion fell on the Hezbollah organization, but its members have denied their involvement in the incident.
The authorities believe that the terrorist arrived in Bulgaria long before the attack and that he had two accomplices, presumably a man and a woman. The taxi driver who gave a lift to the man who organized the explosion claims that the man spoke Russian fluently. American license was also found on the suicide bomber. But with identification, problems arose, his DNA and fingerprints are not in any database around the world.
