A sign, in fact, is a statement of a visible, but incomprehensible cause-and-effect relationship. Sometimes such a connection can be based on real grounds.
Where can the signs come from?
A typical example of a well-grounded omen can be considered the formulation "a child is jinxed". Newborn babies can get sick from any infection. Therefore, it would be better to minimize their contact with strangers. Today, any student of a medical university can say this, but the ancestors, of course, did not possess such information. However, many years of observation of small children have resulted in the omen - not to show a small child to anyone outside, until he is at least a little older.
In a similar way, people made a connection between natural phenomena. Swallows flying low hint at an imminent rain. The mechanisms of such connections are now known (it's all about the humidity of the air, which does not allow those insects that are food for swallows to fly high), but many years ago no one could have known this. People just noticed the connection between the two phenomena and formulated a sign.
In some cases, the formation of signs takes a completely different path. For example, there is a Bulgarian belief that killing a frog means making it rain. This is due to the fact that frogs get out on the ground just before the rain; in such a situation, these creatures are not threatened with serious dehydration of the skin. And killing a frog on land is much easier than chasing it in water. This is how signs that are not entirely clear from the point of view of simple logic appear.
Even the strangest omens on closer inspection can turn out to be quite logical.
Sometimes omens emerged as products of mythical logic. The basic law of ancient mythological thinking is as follows: "like gives birth to like." On the basis of this law, the most wild and strange omens arise. One of the modern illogical signs claims that if the bride and groom are photographed at the wedding separately from each other, then they are threatened with divorce.
The study of signs is a very interesting activity, if you approach this matter wisely, you can find a lot of interesting information about the thinking of our ancestors. At the same time, the most important question is why modern people believe in omens
The creation of omens can be a specific defensive reaction of consciousness.
Where does logical thinking lead?
Human thinking requires logic in everything. In the absence of logic, the process of thinking itself does not take place. That is why accidents, of which there are so many in the world, affect the brain in a rather destructive way. People cannot control the situation in everything, since there are always a number of circumstances that cannot be influenced. Signs create the illusion of a kind of control over chances on the field, where it is impossible to logically explain what is happening, or it is impossible to control what is happening.
