Socialization of a person is the process of assimilating knowledge, social norms and psychological attitudes that allow him to function successfully in society. This is a phenomenon, without which it is impossible to imagine the life of every individual, therefore it is necessary to consider the characteristics of the socialization of the individual and its stages.
Characteristic
Socialization of the individual as a phenomenon is the formation of a person under the influence of social conditions and experience. In fact, this is the active inclusion of the individual in public life. This phenomenon is two-sided. On the one hand, it includes the assimilation of social experience by a person through entering his environment. On the other hand, it is an individual's active reproduction of social ties due to his activities. That is, a person assimilates experience and allows the social environment to influence him, but at the same time he himself exercises an increasingly successful influence on the surrounding society.
The term "socialization" corresponds to the concept based on the fact that the sociality of each person and child is reduced to the need for communication, while at the very beginning the personality is asocial. It turns out that the socialization of a person is a phenomenon due to which the initially asocial subject turns into a social person who owns the norms and models of behavior accepted in society.
Stages of personality socialization
There are five main stages of personality socialization. The first stage is primary socialization, that is, the adaptation of the individual to the social environment, from birth to adolescence. Children accept social experience uncritically through imitation and adaptation to the surrounding reality.
The second stage is individualization. This is a phenomenon based on the desire to stand out. Here, a critical attitude towards social norms is manifested, an indication of one's uniqueness and a desire to distinguish oneself.
The third stage is integration, that is, the desire to find oneself, one's place in society. If the basic personality traits meet social expectations, integration is considered successful. If this does not happen, the socialization of the personality as a phenomenon begins to be based on the strengthening of aggressiveness, the refusal of the individual from his individuality and other negative features.
The fourth stage is called labor and is considered the longest, since it covers the entire period of a person's labor activity. At this stage, the person continues to assimilate social experience and translate it into social life.
The fifth stage is post-labor activity, when a person transfers the accumulated social experience to the younger generation.
It can be seen that the socialization of the individual as a phenomenon covers the entire life of a person, allowing him to be a full-fledged member of society.
