Flogging with rods is one of the types of corporal punishment that has been known since ancient times. Rods were punished in Ancient Egypt, and in Ancient Rome, and in Ancient Greece. Rod punishment was widespread in Europe until the late 19th century, and in Great Britain until the mid-20th century.

Rods are shoots of birch, willow, hazel, and other shrubs and trees that have been used for corporal punishment. The guilty person was publicly flogged with thin elastic and flexible rods. It is curious that the use of rods as a punishment has improved over time: the rods were thoroughly soaked in salt water in order to give them even greater elasticity.
Step 2
Punishment with rods at all times was one of the types of punishment applied to a person for committing a criminal offense. It should be noted that since ancient times petty hooliganism, resistance to arrest, petty theft, etc. were considered a criminal offense. The fact is that it would be too cruel to go to prison for such a thing, but to publicly punish and dishonor a person is instructive.

In eastern countries, flogging with rods is still used. But not everyone suffers from this, but only women. The basis for the application of this punishment is disobedience and disobedience to the husband, etc. Flogging with rods is still used in parish and Sunday schools. Both children who come to these educational institutions and adults who work there (singers, accountants) are flogged.

It is curious that in parish schools, the punishment with rods is used not so much for criminal offenses, but as a lynching against a helpless child or adult. And this is a fact. In Hungary, flogging with rods is still an official punishment for certain misconduct. Since ancient times, Hungarian landowners considered it their duty to publicly weigh 25 lashes to their serfs. The latter regarded this gesture as a great disposition of the owner to his person. Peasant women fell in love with men who survived a brutal flogging, because they saw them as real heroes. In Russia, flogging with rods continued until the 19th century. Then the gentlemen flogged their serfs, summoning the entire district in order to turn this punishment into a public humiliation. The peasants who were flogged with rods tried not to make a single sound.
Step 6
Whipping with rods, which has survived to this day, is a real savagery on the part of modern society. The norms of humanity and etiquette dictate their own: a modern person can be punished with work, exile, a fine, loneliness, but not physical abuse.
