Drilling a well in the sand is called a "pig in a poke" by experts, since even the operation of such a well in a neighboring area does not provide the presence of water in the aquifer in your area.
A well on sand also has a second name - a filter well. This name is due to the fact that the lower part of the casing is perforated with a fine mesh. The mesh is made by the galloon weaving method, its task is to hold coarse sand fractions and pass water through.
Features of the construction of a well in the sand
Such a well should be deepened by 30 m. The purpose of drilling a well in the sand is to find a layer of water-bearing sand where the filter is to be installed. Layers of aquifer sand are located one above the other and are called water lenses. There will be more water if it is possible to find a powerful lens by drilling.
For such wells, coarse sand, which has inclusions of gravel, is excellent, and gravel layers will be an even better option. The duration of the well operation on sand will depend on the frequency of its use, as well as the fraction of sand in which the filter is mounted. With coarser sand with a higher gravel content, the hole is more abundant and runs longer.
Work on drilling a well for sand is carried out on average within a couple of days. The diameter of the casing string should reach 133 mm, the productivity will vary in the range of 0.5-1.2 m3 / h. This is enough for irrigation of a personal plot, as well as for water supply of one family's house.
If the soil on the site is homogeneous and soft, then work can be done with an auger. It looks like a corkscrew. If the auger collides with moraine (rocks), then further drilling using this method will not be possible.
If a nearby area has a sandy well, this does not guarantee that the completion of such a well in another area will be successful. A sandy aquifer can be completely devoid of water. In this case, the well will have to be drilled, going deeper into the lower aquifers.
About the technology of work
Shallow wells are drilled with light drilling rigs UGB-1VS, as well as PBU-1 (2). A metal pipe with a diameter of 133 mm protrudes as a casing string. It has a threaded connection. The filter is a perforated steel pipe with a mesh, which can be made of brass No. 52, 56, 68.
Drilling can be carried out at any time of the year. In order to make the passage of equipment to the place of the future well, you should make sure that there are no embankments, fences and structures on the way. An entrance should be provided, the width of which should be equal to 3 meters, the height should not be limited within 4 meters. But the minimum area for work should be 36 m2. The height of the working area should not be limited to within 7 meters. Power supply (220V) with a power of 3kW should be provided.
