Some household appliances used in the daily activities of a housewife need additional adjustment of their operating modes. In order for a pressure cooker or food processor to turn on and off at a specified time, you need an additional device - a household timer. By learning how to use a simple mechanical timer, you can save yourself a lot of worries.

Instructions

Step 1

Study the instruction manual of the timer to find out the scope of its application. Devices of this type are usually designed for currents up to 16 A and have a limitation on the power of the connected device. A mechanical household timer plugged into an electrical outlet can be used with resistor-type appliances, which include incandescent lamps and electric furnaces, and inductive-type. The latter category includes fluorescent lamps and electric motors.

Step 2

Set the current time on the scale of the household timer, as well as the time when the appliance is turned on or off. The most common timer design is a device fitted with a serrated disc. These teeth, located on the outer disc, need to be pressed. Each prong will correspond to a specific timer run time. A typical step is 15 minutes.

Step 3

Insert the plug of the timer into a power outlet and connect the appropriate device to the device, the operating time of which you want to control. If you later need to change the timer operation mode, the teeth on the disk will have to be returned to their original position, and then new parameters have to be set to turn the device on or off.

Step 4

Use the switch located on the side of the case when working with the timer. It is equipped with a symbol that looks like a clock, and an icon that looks like a Roman numeral I. When the switch is set to the first symbol, the timer will perform its main function of turning on or off household appliances. If you select the I symbol, the timer will operate as a standard socket, continuously supplying power.

Step 5

When using the timer, follow the recommendations in the technical description. Do not use a mechanical timer to connect complex devices that require a specific program to be selected. Such devices include a programmable multicooker. The household timer, unfortunately, will not be able to set several cycles of sequential switching on and off of complex equipment.
