What to consider when decorating a grave
It should be remembered that the cemetery is subject to special design rules. A sense of proportion is extremely important here. A restrained, modest design is appropriate for the cemetery.
Burial sites have a limited area, and therefore it is necessary to adhere to certain rules when choosing tombstones and plantings. It should be assumed that the burial site should be conditionally divided into 3 parts: 60% of the area is occupied by ground cover and lawn plants, 25% by framing species and 10-15% by seasonal plantings.
The main thing is to equip the grave site in such a way that its appearance fully corresponds to the purpose of the cemetery as a place of rest.
Decorating graves with plants
There is an assortment of different plants that can be used to design a burial site as a complete composition that must meet the above requirements.
In plantings in cemeteries, 3 groups of plants are distinguished:
- forming a lawn;
- framing the gravestone;
- seasonal plants that need to be changed throughout the year.
Framing trees are usually not planted directly at the burial site, but nearby. It is better to do this immediately after the funeral so that it begins to grow.
However, just as immediately, that is, after the funeral, it is impossible to plant herbaceous perennials and shrubs directly on the grave site. There is a process of soil subsidence, which can take several years. On average, it usually lasts for 2-4 years, depending on moisture and soil composition. Until the burial mound subsides, it is advisable to do with short-lived or artificial plants, decorative dumps, and only then plant shrubs or perennials that will form a permanent composition.
It is advisable to decorate children's graves with decorative flowering perennials or flowering annuals. Sometimes, in order to minimize the maintenance of the burial site as much as possible, they give the main role to ground cover plants. For example, a tenacious or periwinkle covering the whole grave with a green carpet will create a feeling of peace.
Often, graves are decorated with stone slabs, gravel and other similar materials. Cold, oblivion and despondency emanate from such tombstones. It may be better to plant perennials that do not require special care: aquilegia, peonies, ferns, ornamental cereals.
As a rule, most people get to visit the grave only a few times a year. More often than not, many do not succeed. Think about when you will visit the cemetery, at what time of the year? It is preferable to choose plants that bloom at their peak during your visit. For those who visit the cemetery quite rarely, instead of flowering plants, it is better to plant shrubs - cinquefoil, horizontal cotoneaster, Fortchuna euonymus.
It will be good if the plants you choose will attract birds. Singing birds in the cemetery are very good. If the deceased had any favorite plants, do not forget about them. When decorating a grave site, remember everything that the deceased person loved.
