A standard rose or rosewood is one of the most spectacular ways to grow roses. Standard roses can be miniature up to 40 cm, they are usually grown in pots, or reach a height of 2 or more meters. Following certain rules, making a standard rose can also be grown in the climatic conditions of central Russia.
It is necessary
- - rose bush;
- - garden pruner;
- - rope;
- - a peg;
- - covering material;
- - holder for crown
Instructions
Step 1
Low prune all shoots on the rose bush. This stimulates the plant to form new root shoots. The number of shoots depends on the type of plant, but usually their number ranges between 5-10.
Step 2
Decide how high the bole will be. As a rule, this height ranges from 0.7 to 1.2 m. It takes 3-4 weeks after spring pruning until the time when new shoots grow to the required height.
Step 3
Cut off the lower leaves and thorns when the shoots have reached the desired height. Weave them together. For strength, shoots can be tied in several places with a rope, which should be removed, when they finally become stiff. Tie the resulting stem to a peg - this will not allow the plant to bend and preserve the slenderness of the stem. When the standard rose is strong enough, the peg can be removed.
Step 4
Try to make a standard rose from a bush with a large number of shoots, since it is their number that determines the number of inflorescences on the future rose tree.
Step 5
Watch during the summer so that lateral shoots do not form on the trunk. Remove the appearing outgrowths immediately.
Step 6
Cut off the wilted inflorescences, and in a couple of weeks the rose will give 2-3 new flower stalks. During the period of abundant flowering, such pruning should be carried out 2-3 times a week.
Step 7
Start preparing the plant for winter from the end of August. Reduce watering and do not feed the rose with organic fertilizers. With the onset of frost, wrap the bole with covering material. As a covering material, you can use various films used in construction as insulation.
Step 8
Provide support for the growing crown. The standard rose reaches its peak flowering 3-4 years after planting. The branches of the standard rose, which are nevertheless the branches of a shrub, not a tree, find it difficult to maintain their own weight and many flower buds during the period of active flowering. You can help the plant with various holders that are sold in garden stores. However, the holders can be built independently from thin wooden slats and wire.
