Basically, for turning woodwork, cutters of various shapes, or chisels, are used. The tool has handles if it is intended for manual work, while tools for a lathe do not.
Instructions
Step 1
Wood turning tools are divided into three main groups - roughing, finishing and special. A roughing cutter is called a reier. It is used for rough turning wood processing and is a semicircular chisel. The blade has a grooved shape, due to which this tool removes a sufficient layer of wood. The reyer is sharpened from the convex side into the semi-oval at an angle of 25-30 degrees. After the workpiece is finished with a reamer, its surface remains rough. In addition to being used for roughing, the reer is also used for picking out internal cavities and turning concave shapes.
Step 2
Meisel is a chisel knife sharpened on both sides, it is sharpened at an angle and used for finishing wood turning. They eliminate roughness on the product and level the surface. A chisel is a jamb knife that is sharpened on both sides at an angle of 20-25 degrees. The cutting angle of its blade is 70-75 degrees, and the tool width ranges from 5 to 50 mm. The blade is sharpened at an angle, which makes it possible to work in the middle when convex or straight surfaces are to be turned. With the help of an acute angle of the meisel, the profile surface is cleaned, the ends are trimmed with it and the product is cut off. Obtuse corners are used for turning round workpieces.
Step 3
A chisel with one chamfer and a straight blade is called a scraper cutter. With its help, recesses with right angles are grinded, used for head-on turning, as well as when forming round spikes and when leveling cylindrical surfaces. To grind grooves and internal cavities, a hook cutter is used. All types of shaped cutters, rings and hooks are used for hollow parts and turning their inner surfaces. They are also used for external sections, which need to be given a certain profile. In turning woodwork, one cannot do without measuring and marking tools. Various types of calipers, calipers, thickness gauge, compasses, center finder, templates, squares, rulers with backing are used.
Step 4
Various devices also exist for securing the workpiece on the machine so that it can rotate at the same time. Various methods allow you to fix the workpiece to the holes, in the center, to the outer surface. For fixing in the center, a trident cartridge is used, the center when fixing must coincide with the axis of rotation. For cantilever fastening, a sleeve cartridge, a tubular cartridge, a cam cartridge, and a faceplate are used. This type of fastening is necessary to secure the end of the workpiece. Used to grind hollow pieces, chess pieces, nesting dolls or decorative dishes.
