To create a pig farm, you need to build a room for it and buy pigs. With proper care, sows will produce piglets every year. After fattening, the young are sent to the meat processing plant.
How to build a pig farm
To organize a pig farm, you first need to build a building in which the pigs will be. For a small farm, two rooms with a separate walk for each are enough. The windows and exit of the pig farm should face south.
Walls can be made from planks and logs. Pour the floor with concrete and cover with oiled boards. In cold areas, the walls of the farm need to be insulated; foam is perfect for this purpose. A walk, located in the open air, also needs to be equipped: cover the floor with boards, install fences.
Two sections in a pig farm are needed to separate adult pigs and young stock with a queen, or adult pigs and boars.
All branches of the farm must be in communication with each other. This is for your convenience.
After the pig farm is built, pigs must be purchased. For a mini-farm, it is better to choose animals of a large white breed, since they are not very demanding on protein content in food and are distinguished by large offspring.
How to care for pigs
Pigs are unpretentious in food. Most often they are fed with food waste, which is divided into vegetable, meat and fish. A special yeast feed is prepared from this waste. The recipe is simple - in one bucket of a thick mixture of waste, you need to add 10-15 grams of yeast and put in heat to ripen. Bone ash, daily salt intake and vitamins are additionally added to the mixture. In summer, you need to add nettles and leaves of the moral root to the feed.
You need to feed the pigs three times a day, and after feeding, let them go for a walk. While the pigs are walking, you need to clean them in their enclosures and renew the sawdust dressing.
Once a week, the animals should be brushed with a wet brush. In the summer, to prevent the pigs from overheating, place a large container filled with water with potassium permanganate in the walking area.
When to expect offspring
In young females, sexual heat begins early, already at 4-5 months. But their internal organs are not yet sufficiently developed, so you need to keep them separate from the boar for up to 9-10 months. If the female weighs 110-120 kilograms, and she has reached the required age, she is covered with a boar or artificial insemination is performed.
Pregnancy in a pig lasts 110 to 120 days. Farrowing most often occurs at night. A newly born piglet should be wiped off with a towel, the nose and mucous membranes should be cleaned, and the umbilical cord cut off. Newborn piglets are placed on the mother's nipples. If the piglets are born more than the nipples in the uterus, the strongest newborns are placed next to another farrowed pig. In order for the nurse to accept the foundlings, all the piglets must have the same smell, for this they need to be held together for a while and lubricated with a weak solution of kerosene.
It is necessary to feed young animals until the animals reach a weight of 100-120 kilograms. Then the pigs are sent to the meat processing plant. Their enclosures are washed, disinfected and new piglets are housed.
