Thousands of Russians die from fires every year. But most of the tragic cases could have been prevented by observing the most elementary rules. The basic actions aimed at ensuring fire safety are very simple and accessible even without special training.
Necessary
- - fire extinguishers;
- - smoke detectors;
- - evacuation plan;
- - automatic fire warning system or Smart Home system.
Instructions
Step 1
Install smoke detectors in every room of your home and utility rooms. It is the best fire warning weapon. Be sure to check the operation of the detectors once a month, and change the batteries once a year. Some manufacturers advise replacing detectors every 10 years, even if they are in good working order.
Step 2
If funds permit, install an automatic fire alarm or fire extinguishing system. Such a system will not only transmit information about an incipient fire, but also turn on automatic fire extinguishing and smoke removal systems.
Step 3
Buy fire extinguishers for every room, kitchen and garage. Their presence is necessary when extinguishing a small fire. Very often, a small fire develops into a large fire during the time that you rush in search of an extinguishing agent.
Step 4
Use carbon dioxide fire extinguishers in your home. After extinguishing the fire, carbon dioxide simply evaporates, leaving virtually no traces. Check regularly that the fire extinguishing media are working properly.
Step 5
In any office, a fire escape plan is a mandatory document. Why is there no such plan in your house? Design if possible two escape routes from each room, draw diagrams and explain them to your family members.
Step 6
Install fire escapes for the upper floors. If you live in an apartment building, get to know your neighbors and discuss evacuation with them. Provide the ability to move up floors, stairs or from balcony to balcony.
Step 7
Teach all your family members how to deal with a fire. Conduct a fire drill in a playful way. Teach children and adults to check doors for heat before opening, to protect the respiratory system from smoke, to use a fire extinguisher. Follow the evacuation route several times. These simple skills can save lives in an emergency.
Step 8
In a private house, all wooden parts of walls, ceilings and floors must have a fire-resistant impregnation. Always pay attention to the fire safety class when choosing finishing materials. Do not forget that some plastics practically do not burn, but when melted and heated, they give a large amount of poisonous smoke.
Step 9
There must be a distance between heating devices and walls. Do not install electrical appliances in closed niches where there is no air movement. If this situation cannot be avoided, arrange forced ventilation of such corners.
Step 10
Do not overload wiring and outlets. One socket is designed to connect no more than two household electrical appliances.
Step 11
All electrical cables must be in good working order. If there are pets in the house, keep all cables and extension cords out of reach. It is no secret that cats and dogs love to gnaw them, and there it is not far to short circuit.
Step 12
Be sure to explain to your children the dangers of playing with matches, lighters. Every child should be aware of the properties of magnifying glasses or the possibility that some plastics can easily ignite, even on a regular electric lamp.
