At the meeting of the leaders of the most influential states of the world - the G8, or G8 - the main problems of world politics and economics are being resolved. Therefore, it will be important for people interested in world processes in these areas to know about the course of the summit in 2012.
Instructions
Step 1
In 2012, the G8 summit was held at Camp David, the country residence of the President of the United States. Its start was scheduled for May 18th. Traditionally, the summit should be attended by the leaders of the eight leading world powers - the USA, Canada, Germany, Russia, Japan, France, Italy and Great Britain. However, the Russian president informed the press in advance that he would not come to the meeting, as he was busy forming a government after the elections. Instead, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev attended the summit.
Step 2
US President Barack Obama became the host of the summit in connection with the event in America. On Friday, the first day, he personally greeted all the representatives of the participating countries, and then the guests went to a gala dinner.
Step 3
Official meetings began the next day, Saturday. The leaders of states had to discuss many issues of a global scale. In particular, the state of the European economy was one of them. It is not the first year that the economies of Spain, Greece and partly Italy are in a difficult situation. Governments have to cut costs, which outrages residents. Also, the economic instability of several regions threatens the position of the euro - one of the world's reserve currencies.
Step 4
Military conflicts, especially the problem of Syria and the ongoing war in Afghanistan for many years, also became a topic for discussion. The problem of Iran's nuclear program was also touched upon. In this case, the leading countries have no consensus. While no one wants the further proliferation of nuclear weapons, Russia is in a softer position than the United States. For example, Russian specialists took part in the construction of the UES in the Iranian city of Bushehr to help the country use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Step 5
The summit format also included individual meetings of heads of state, including President Obama and Prime Minister Medvedev.
