Only office chairs can provide comfort during long-term work at the computer. It is just that the details of the chair can be displayed taking into account the individual anatomical features. For this, a mechanism called "gas lift" was invented.
Design features of the "gas lift" mechanism
A similar mechanism is found between the seat and the wheels of the office chair. It is a rather long pipe made of metal, which is covered with plastic on top. The "gas lift" mechanism has a distant external resemblance to the tipping mechanism of a dump truck body. But naturally, their sizes differ significantly.
Typically, a "gas lift" for a chair is equipped with a pneumatic cartridge, the size of which does not exceed 16 cm. The dimensions of the pneumatic cartridge depend on the type of the chair itself. The higher this value is, the higher the "gas lift" will lift the chair.
Device and principle of operation
The principle of operation of this mechanism is quite simple and understandable for perception. So, there is a small cylinder in the steel case. This refers to the body under the plastic upholstery of the chair. A piston rod is located in the cylinder. It is he who provides the raising and lowering of the entire structure. There are also two reservoirs in the cylinder, between which there is a special valve. In fact, this valve is responsible for the movement of the seat "gas lift". The direction of movement of the stem usually depends on which position the valve will be in. It can be open or closed.
When the seat is in the lowest position, the piston is positioned at the top of the cylinder. If you try to raise the chair and push the lever, the piston presses against a special button. Actually, this button opens the valve located between the two chambers. At the same time, the gas flows from the reservoir of the first chamber to the second, and the device is gradually lowered. But the seat, on the other hand, begins to move upward.
Then the button closes and the gas supply to the tanks is stopped. Consequently, the stock no longer changes its position. If you want to lower the gas lift for the chair, you usually press the lever located at the mechanism. As a result, the gas from the second chamber moves into the first one. The piston begins to move upward. The seat is lowered to the height you need.
By the way, if the "gas lift" mechanism breaks down, it cannot be repaired in any way. If the reservoir is damaged, replacement becomes inevitable. It is also not recommended to open this device on your own, as there is high pressure gas inside. It is impossible to replace the mechanism without the help of a specialist.
