A beautiful collection of minerals, housed in a glazed and illuminated wardrobe, will brighten up any apartment. But putting together a good collection is quite difficult, for this you need to know the minerals and go in search of them for more than a dozen kilometers.

Step 1
Finding minerals is a field job, so you need to find the right equipment. You should have comfortable, sturdy clothing, footwear suitable for walking on the slopes, a backpack, a short shovel (preferably a sapper), a geological hammer and a pair of chisels of different sizes. It is useful to have a short crowbar or crowbar with you. To pack the collected minerals, you need paper bags or at least newspapers.

If you think that a certain area is needed to search for minerals - for example, mountainous, then you are deeply mistaken. Minerals can be found everywhere. To get started, study at least basic information about the geology and origin of minerals, information about your region. This will help you understand what minerals you can find in your area.
Step 3
It is best to start searching for them in the nearby quarries and mines. The rock in such places has been opened, the deep layers are exposed, which greatly contributes to a successful search. It is more difficult, but no less interesting, to search for minerals in natural outcrops, such as rocks, talus, river canyons. Do not miss various pits, places of excavation for roads and railways, power lines. Wherever the bulldozer has worked, you can find something interesting.
Step 4
First of all, pay attention to any deviation in the color of the rock, in the location of the layers. Do not miss blotches shiny in the sun. Even if your region seems to be explored far and wide, do not lose your optimism - geologists usually hunt for something specific, so you may well find something that escaped their sight.
Step 5
If the mineral found is in the rock mass, carefully cut it out using a hammer and chisel. Chip off the main part of the excess breed from it at once, all the fine work should be done at home. Wrap the sample in a paper bag or wrap it in newspaper, be sure to write down the place and time of the find on the package. If you do not specify the data immediately, then later you can simply get confused in dozens of packages with collected samples.
Step 6
Alternatively, indicate the number on the package, be sure to several times and in different places of the package, and write down the basic data, indicating the number, in a field diary. The convenience of this method is that you can add additional notes to the diary. Later, re-reading the diary, you will get a lot of pleasant impressions from the memories of your trips and finds.
Step 7
Disassemble the collected minerals at home. Clean samples of debris and excess rocks, make stands for them, or put them in storage boxes. Attach a small number label to each sample. You can also specify the name of the mineral. Store the collection in closed boxes or a glazed cabinet, otherwise the minerals quickly become covered with dust and lose their attractive appearance.
