On September 7, 2012, Khamovniki, a district of the central administrative district of Moscow, was covered with black smoke. At 9:30, a strong fire started in one of the buildings, which arrived firefighters completely liquidated within an hour. The emergency kept eyewitnesses in suspense for a long time: large office centers are working on the damaged street; many architectural structures in the area are of historical value.
The fire in Khamovniki began at 16 Lev Tolstoy Street - next to Zubovsky Boulevard. The puffs of acrid smoke rose tens of meters to the top, so they were visible from many remote parts of the capital. The roadway, the entire area near the Park Kultury metro station and the surrounding streets were shrouded in black shroud. Soon, fire brigades and other emergency city services began to arrive at the scene of the accident.
Firefighters were especially concerned about the numerous old buildings located in Khamovniki. So, in one of the wooden mansions on Lev Tolstoy Street, the genius writer himself lived for some time. In it he wrote his famous plays "The Living Corpse" and "The Fruits of Enlightenment", as well as the novel "Resurrection". In 1921, the house was nationalized and turned into a museum. In addition, a large business center "Red Rose" is located in the affected area.
Among other offices, the premises of the Russian IT company Yandex were in the smoke from the fire. Its staff began a mass evacuation. According to eyewitnesses, the smoke on the road created the risk of numerous road accidents and prevented ambulances from reaching the scene. At 10:30 am, the fire brigades completely coped with the fire, but the smoky clouds did not dissipate soon.
According to representatives of the main department of the Ministry of Emergencies of Moscow, the area of fire was relatively small - only about 15 square meters. m. It turned out that in the reconstructed brick building scaffolding caught fire, insulation and wooden flooring smoldered. No casualties were found at the scene.
By 11:00, life in the ill-fated metropolitan area began to flow again as before; employees of the largest Internet search engine in Russia also returned to their jobs. According to the press secretary of "Yandex" Ochir Mandzhikov, the company is going to take the damaged building on a long-term lease. He stressed that the fire on Lev Tolstoy Street will not affect the operation of Internet servers in any way.
