A device for heating water, which combines a vessel for water, a brazier and a pipe passing through the vessel, has been known since ancient times. However, only in Russia this device was adapted for making tea. At the end of the 18th century, the production of a samovar began in Tula, and soon it became a real symbol of Russia.
Necessary
- - samovar;
- - charcoal;
- - splinters.
Instructions
Step 1
Use charcoal to fire the samovar: the efficiency in this case will be about 70%, when using wood - about 15%. Prepare several bundles of torch - thin sticks of birch, spruce or pine. The length of the splinters is about 40 centimeters, the thickness is 2 millimeters. Tie the splinters into bunches about two centimeters thick.
Step 2
Kindle the samovar outdoors, or in a room from where the samovar pipe can be brought out. Usually, these L-shaped pipes were taken out into the chimney of a home (Russian stove). Place it low enough, for example, on a tree stump, so that it is easier to load fuel.
Step 3
Open the lid of the samovar and pour water to the top. It is important to fill the vessel for water completely, otherwise, when heated, the samovar may dissolve in those places where it was left without water. Close the grate under the samovar with large pieces of coal, take a bunch of torch, light it and lower it into the fire tube, then immediately fill in a small part of the coal and put on the pipe.
Step 4
Watch when the first batch of coal ignites and smoke goes out, remove the pipe and add the rest of the coal. Do not fill up all the charcoal at once and do not try to fill the entire flame tube with fuel: this will obstruct the passage of air and reduce combustion.
Step 5
Determine when the samovar boils: before boiling, it begins to make noise, at the time of boiling, it dies down. When tapped on its side, a samovar with not boiled water makes a ringing sound, and with boiling water it makes a dull sound. With proper kindling, a five-liter samovar will boil in about ten minutes.
Step 6
Remove the pipe from the samovar, as soon as the water boils, close the fire pipe with a lid, transfer the samovar to the table and place it on a tray (copper, tin or brass). After use, remove residual ash and small coals by opening the small hatch at the bottom of the firebox. Shake out the bulk of the burnt fuel by turning the samovar upside down. If it was heated with wood or cones, clean the fire tube with a brush to remove tar and soot.
