Even a steel rope can break, in which case you may need to make a loop at the end. You can braid the steel cable yourself, even in the field. To do this, you only need the simplest tools.

Instructions
Step 1
Make sure that the ends of the cable are cut straight. If there are bends at the end, untwist and cut each strand with nippers, metal scissors, or other tools that are at hand.
Step 2
Untwist the cable into strands 50-80 cm from the edge. In order not to injure your hands, be sure to wear gloves before starting work.
Step 3
Take two strands and set aside a distance equal to the diameter of the loop from the unwoven edge. Also add 1 to 2 cm as the loop will decrease slightly as you weave. Fold the strands back to form a loop.
Step 4
Twist one of the remaining ends around the two intertwined strands and hide the tip. Wrap the other end the other way. If you can, braid a pigtail from these three parts, weaving alternately one or the other strand.
Step 5
Take the third strand and wrap it around the braid, then weave it into the loop, wrap it around the braid again. Thus, weave all the rods in turn, passing each next to meet the previous one.
Step 6
Hide the ends of the twigs inside the braid. At the end, you will be left with two sticking strands, which also need to be shoved inside - use a screwdriver or pliers for this.
Step 7
If possible, tighten the resulting braid in several places with clamps. Clamps can be made from steel wire by cutting small pieces, wrapping them in tight rings and tightening the ends with pliers. Bend the ends of the wire and hide it inside the braid.
Step 8
Wrap the resulting pigtail with duct tape to make the loop more secure. In addition, duct tape will allow you to better hide the ends.
Step 9
To strengthen the cable, additional cables or wire can be weaved inside. In order to fix the cable without any problems, weave a bark protective sling into the loop, they will form one whole, and the winch hook can be attached to the free end of the bark protective sling.
