Competent gardeners must whitewash the trunks and forks of branches of fruit trees and some shrubs before the start of the season. This is done not only for beauty. Whitewashing protects plants from pests, hot sunlight, and prevents infection with fungal diseases.
Necessary
- - Whitewash solution;
- - brush or spray gun.
Instructions
Step 1
The optimal time to whitewash trees and bushes is late March or early April. During this period, the main snow is already melting, but the earth is not yet warming up enough for the pests wintering in it to wake up. Therefore, when they are reborn to life, they will not be able to settle in whitewashed plants. The same parasites that are already hiding in the bark are likely to be destroyed as a result of whitewashing. Do not be late with the treatment: when the sun gets hot, it can harm the plants, then whitewashing will not save you from burns. The weather must be cool but dry so that the rain does not immediately wash away the fruits of your labors.
Step 2
Today in specialized stores a fairly wide range of products for whitewashing plants is presented. They are sold in the form of powders and ready-made solutions. The first ones must be diluted in water according to the instructions, the second ones can be whitened immediately.
Step 3
If you want to save money, it is easy to prepare a solution on your own. Take 2.5 kg of lime, dissolve in a bucket of water, add 0.5 liters of copper sulphate and 200 g of wood glue. Everything, the composition is ready, trees and bushes can be processed.
Step 4
The whitewashing process is pretty straightforward. To begin with, carefully examine the tree or bush that you are going to process. Scrub the trunk and branches of lichens, moss, dry dead bark. Thoroughly coat the cracks with garden pitch.
Step 5
Now you can proceed directly to whitewashing. It is most convenient to use a spray gun or a spray gun for this, but you can also whitewash with a brush, although in this case the process will be delayed.
