The auger is translated from German as "snail". This is a pin or rod with a helical surface, which is a part of any device for moving a load along this very helical surface inside the pipe.
For the invention of modern augers, the water lifting machine invented by Archimedes back in the third century BC was taken as an example.
In modern life, there are many examples of the use of a screw:
- removes shavings in drills, - used instead of wheels in off-road vehicles, - installed in firearms, - serves as the main part of the meat grinder, - in presses for pressing oil or juices, - in machines for drilling wells (motor-drills), - used for filling rollers.
Usage
The advantages of using augers in production are the maximum simplicity of the devices and the regulated uniform supply of bulk, small-sized or liquid cargo.
Construction is impossible without the help of an auger. Devices based on it will help to mix concrete, move cement or sand from place to place. For the first time, the use of augers at the construction site began in the sixteenth century.
Screw conveyors or screw conveyors are actively used in the agricultural field due to their closed design and compact dimensions. Almost all combines now produced in Russia are equipped with augers.
But in drilling, augers have not gained particular popularity, because their use is possible only if the surface for drilling is soft, but not clay, since clay sticks to the auger, plus the depth when drilling augers is very limited. But if these parameters are respected, then the auger screws do their job very well.
Examples of the use of screws in the food industry: transportation of food products in workshops (meat, flour, sugar, cereals). Even pharmaceuticals are not possible without screws, with their help it is possible to make hermetic transportation of raw materials for medicines.
Selection of auger device
When choosing an auger for a particular type of production, you should know the properties of the product that will be fed into the auger (density, humidity, temperature), because this is what determines the type of screw and the conveyor operation scheme. It is also important to know what the productivity of the auger is. If continuous operation is meant, or vice versa, then it should be clarified whether there is a device in the auger that regulates the supply of material to the conveyor.
Having found out these parameters and choosing a quality screw manufacturer, first the calculation is made, then the manufacture of the device, then its completion with options that make the screws work reliable and easy to use.
