Silver items lose their color over time. First, the shine fades, then the metal itself becomes darker or even greener. It is only theoretically possible to prevent discoloration - it is necessary to completely exclude the contact of a silver product with sulfur ions. Since this is not possible, sooner or later the cleaning cannot be avoided.
Necessary
Salt, soda, ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, soap
Instructions
Step 1
Jewelry stores can offer you special cleaning products for jewelry made of this metal. With them, cleaning will not take much time or effort, but the product, according to the consultants, will retain its natural color for a long time, since after cleaning it will be covered with an invisible protective film.
Step 2
However, there are several equally effective ways to successfully clean silver at home. The most common of these is a solution of water and 10% ammonia. Pour water into a glass (the volume depends on the size of the product) and add a few drops of ammonia. Put the darkened silver in this solution and wait about 20 minutes. Then take out the cleaned product and rinse with water.
Step 3
If you don't have ammonia on hand, prepare a saline solution. To do this, add 1 teaspoon of table salt to a glass of water. Dip the silverware in this solution and boil for 15 minutes. If cleaning is not urgent, then boiling can be dispensed with. Simply let the garment sit in the saline solution for a few hours, then rinse with water and wipe dry.
Step 4
By the way, by analogy, you can clean the silver and baking soda. To do this, dilute a couple of tablespoons of baking soda in 1 liter of water, immerse the product on the bottom and wait a few hours. Remember to rinse it off with clean water afterwards. To enhance the effect, add a little 3% hydrogen peroxide or soapy water to a saline or soda solution.
Step 5
If the contamination is not too strong, a soapy solution may well deal with it. Prepare soapy water, rinse the jewelry in it with a piece of non-coarse cloth, rinse and dry with a suede cloth.
