Parts of various structures made of aluminum often lose their attractive appearance, dimming under the influence of the external environment. No one would dispute the fact that a highly polished motorcycle frame or engine cover looks significantly better than a painted one. To give aluminum a decent look, you have to roll up your sleeves and work a little.

Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the aluminum piece for polishing. If it is stained, remove the paint. To do this, first use mechanical treatment, removing the paint with a stiff steel brush, and then resort to using a solvent for the appropriate type of paint. Wipe the part cleaned from the coating with a soft cloth to remove small particles of the dye. If necessary, remove oil from the metal.
Step 2
Clean out the largest and deepest scratches. Use a coarse sandpaper for this, Then go over the aluminum with a finer sandpaper to remove the remaining bumps and small scratches. If necessary, repeat the procedure until no visible defects remain.
Step 3
Using GOI polishing paste and a felt wheel set on an electric drill, pre-polish the aluminum surface. Apply the paste to the surface of the part in a thin and even layer. If you are using the paste in solid form, grind it in engine oil to the viscosity of sour cream. Saturate the felt circle with the resulting compound. It is advisable to have two or three spare laps as they wear out quickly.
Step 4
Pass the felt on the drill over the entire surface to be polished. Movements should be smooth and circular. After several passes, add the paste to the aluminum surface. At the end of such polishing, rinse off the remaining paste from the part. Wipe the surface with a dry soft cloth. If you have done the work carefully, you can now see your reflection in the metal.
Step 5
To protect polished aluminum from oxidation, cover it with a heat-resistant transparent varnish, after degreasing the surface. Apply the varnish directly after polishing, as aluminum oxidizes quite quickly. Now the metal has become a real mirror.
