Water-based or water-based paint (in the common name - water-based paint) is an aqueous suspension of pigments and binders that do not dissolve, being in suspension. After painting, as the water evaporates, the components form a waterproof coating. Since water is taken as a basis, such paint does not have a pungent odor and does not include toxic solvents. But in case of repair and the need to replace old paint, it is quite difficult to remove it from the surface. How to do it?

Step 1
The most moisture-unstable water emulsion is a paint based on polyvinyl acetate (PVA). A surface painted with such paint can be easily washed off with a sponge and soapy water.
Step 2
If the paint is made on the basis of acrylic resins, then it will be resistant to water and soap solutions. Such paint can be removed only mechanically - with a spatula, or with a flap disc on a "grinder" (angle grinder). The same method is also suitable, if necessary, to clean a large surface. A belt sander is also suitable for this option.
Step 3
Another option for mechanical removal with a wide spatula involves preliminary pasting of the area to be cleaned with newspapers, and as a glue, it is necessary to cook a starch paste with the consistency of liquid sour cream. After the paste dries, it is easier to remove the paint along with the newspapers. A less cheap, but simpler version of this option involves using wallpaper glue instead of paste.
Step 4
The paint can be removed with a chisel. This is a low-performance and tedious method, but the paint can be cleaned very efficiently - and without making unnecessary noise.
Step 5
With the help of a construction hair dryer, section by section, you can anneal the place with the old paint, gradually helping with the spatula. This method is suitable for acrylic resin paints.
Step 6
You can use special chemical based washes. When the wash is applied to the area of the surface that needs to be cleaned, it begins to soak into the paint and destroy it. It can be applied with a natural bristle brush and without plastic parts.
