Extending the life of cut flowers so that they delight the eye for a longer time and remind of a pleasant event is not so much a difficult task as it requires attention and some effort. But if you bought flowers for a gift in advance and want them to keep fresh before the celebration, or are afraid that the bouquet presented to you will wither too quickly, you will have to work hard.

Step 1
If you cut flowers yourself, do it in the morning when it is cool or in cloudy weather. Most of the flowers should be cut in bud or half-open (this does not apply to asters, dahlias, marigolds). Remove the lower leaves, cut off the thorns of the roses. Submerge the flowers in water as soon as possible after cutting. At the same time, it is better to cut the stem at an angle, immediately pressing it with your finger so that the vessels are not clogged with air, you can cut it right in the water. Stems of woody plants (lilac, bird cherry, jasmine) can be crushed with a knife handle or a hammer. For flowers, you need not very cold rain, distilled or filtered water, you can use completely melted snow. If this is not possible, let the tap water stand for a few hours and place the flowers in it. Lilac and bird cherry - better in warm water.
Step 2
The way flowers are kept fresh depends on the species. First of all, it is cold. Cut flowers can be stored in a regular household refrigerator if space permits. You can take them out to the balcony or just leave them on the window - the main thing is that the temperature does not exceed 8-10 ° C, optimally 5-8 ° C. At the same time, you should not immerse tulips and chrysanthemums in water - they are better stored in a "dry" form.
Step 3
To prevent the water from rotting, add special products to it ("Bud", "Chrysal"). They not only have antiseptic properties, but also feed the plants a little. As a water purifier, you can put a little activated carbon or a piece of silver (a coin, rarely used decoration). Cloves can be made with an alcohol solution (no more than a teaspoon of alcohol per liter of water). For roses and chrysanthemums, use aspirin (1/2 tablet for 3 liters of water). A good feeding is a teaspoon of sugar in 0.5 liters of water. Remember to change the water daily.
