As a child, your parents sent you to a music school, but Denis Matsuev never made it out of you, and only the instrument in the corner reminds of your failed career as a musician, from which dust is carefully wiped off once a month. Or maybe the piano was bought thirty years ago “to decorate the interior” (there was such a fashion) … In such cases, the idea of selling a piano that only takes up space in the house is quite logical. But how do you sell it?

Step 1
If you decide to get rid of the piano, keep in mind that you probably won't be able to sell it for an amount comparable to the value of the instrument. If in the USSR pianos of domestic production were comparable in cost to a furniture set, now they are sold more at the price of a bedside table, or even given away for nothing, "for self-pickup." At the same time, the supply significantly exceeds the demand.
Step 2
The price you can ask for directly depends on the quality of the instrument and its condition. The most difficult thing is with the mass-produced pianos made in the USSR. If you have "Red October", "Elegy" or "Belarus" - you are in luck, these pianos are considered the best of the Soviet ones and they really have a very good chance of being sold for 3-5 thousand rubles, or even more expensive. Imported instruments are valued several times higher, they can be sold for 10,000 - 30,000 rubles. The cost of antique pianos is strongly influenced by their preservation and the degree of "rarity"; to determine their potential value, it makes sense to invite a specialist - appraiser.
Step 3
The cost of the tool for the buyer consists of the price requested by the seller, as well as the money that will have to be paid for the transportation and carrying of the tool. Moreover, transportation costs in this case can significantly exceed the cost of the piano itself. Therefore, it is better to start the search for a potential buyer in your own home, posting ads at the entrances (do not forget to indicate the "location" of the tool, since the absence of transportation costs is your competitive advantage). If there are no neighbors willing to buy a piano, cover the neighborhood with your advertisement. If there is a music school nearby (or at least just a school) - do not leave it unattended, here the density of your “potential buyers” is much higher. In the ad, indicate the brand of the instrument, year of manufacture, condition and color (for many, this is important). And, of course, the price.
Step 4
If we are talking about a good Soviet or imported instrument, which really makes sense to carry from the other end of the city, place an ad in city newspapers like "Hand in Hand", as well as on forums - both city-wide message boards and themed music ones. If there is a music school or a conservatory in the city, find the addresses of the musicians' hostels and do not be too lazy to post announcements there as well. Inexpensive high-quality pianos can be very much in demand by junior students who have come to study from other cities. If your ad appears on the door of your dorm at the beginning of the school year, the chances of a piano selling are high.
