Since ancient times, invisible ink has been used to keep correspondence secret. How many secrets were hidden thanks to secret writing, which was applied with special substances. An insignificant note, made on top of the disappeared words and visible to others, kept its secret until there was a "skilled" to read the hidden text between the lines.

Necessary

  • - Alcohol solution of iodine;
  • - phenolphthalein;
  • - milk;
  • - lemon acid;
  • - dextrin;
  • - cobalt chloride;
  • - a decoction of rice;
  • - alkali.

Instructions

Step 1

Disappearing or invisible ink can be made, both in the chemical laboratory and at home. Moreover, nature itself seemed to take special care so that people, thanks to her gifts, could use them in secret writing. Moreover, such inks can be of different types. Some can be written, and they will appear only when special conditions are created: heating, processing with other substances, etc. Other inks, which are clearly visible during writing, disappear irretrievably after a short period of time. In this case, the document loses its power, turning into an ordinary blank sheet of paper.

Step 2

Phenolphthalein. Take the indicator phenolphthalein (colorless solution), draw it into a syringe and inject it into a quill pen. You get an impromptu pen. Write the selected text with phenolphthalein and pat dry. In order to develop and read the record, take a swab moistened with any alkali (potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide). You can also use calcium hydroxide or lime water (a clear solution that is above the settled lime). The letters will instantly turn crimson.

Step 3

Rice. Take rice water, write text to them and let dry. To develop the record, swipe it with a swab moistened with an alcohol solution of iodine. The letters turn blue due to the starch in the rice.

Step 4

Milk. Write the text with milk and let the paper dry. You can manifest it by gently heating over a flame, after which the letters will turn brown. It is very convenient to use a heated iron for this.

Step 5

Lemon acid. Prepare a citric acid solution (the richer the solution, the brighter the letters will be), make a note with it and dry it. Heat the paper (you can use an iron) to develop the text that turns brown.

Step 6

Cobalt chloride. Prepare a solution of cobalt chloride (the higher the concentration, the better), write on the paper and dry. Heat the paper, on which the text written in beautiful blue will appear almost immediately. Then the text can be "made" to disappear again. To do this, it is enough to hold it over the steam or breathe on it, and what is written will again become invisible.

Step 7

Dextrin with iodine. Dextrin is a product that can be obtained after heat treatment of starch (heating). Take half a teaspoon of dextrin, add 25-30 ml of iodine alcohol solution and filter. Write the text with the resulting blue ink. After 1-2 days, the record will disappear irrevocably due to the volatility of iodine.
