When the monitor is turned on, the user may notice, with peripheral vision, that the screen is flickering. This flicker can be seen more clearly in movies or television broadcasts when they show footage with a working computer. The screen flickers because the image is being refreshed. There are a number of steps you need to take to check the flickering frequency of your computer.

Step 1
Open the "Properties: Display" window. To do this, call the "Control Panel" through the "Start" menu. In the category "Design and Themes" select the "Screen" icon by clicking on it with the left mouse button, or select any of the tasks from the list. If the "Control Panel" has a classic look, click on the "Display" icon right away.
Step 2
Another way: in any place of the "Desktop" free of folders and files, right-click. In the drop-down menu, select the "Properties" item by clicking on it with the left mouse button - the required dialog box will open.

In the dialog box that opens, go to the "Options" tab and click on the "Advanced" button. A new window "Properties: Monitor Connector Module and [name of your video card]" will open. Go to the "Monitor" tab. See Monitor settings for screen refresh rates.

If your monitor is LCD, the screen refresh rate settings do not matter much. If the monitor is lamp-based, the selected value may affect the comfort of work on the computer. By default, monitors are refreshed, on average, every 60 seconds. If you want to change the settings, set a new value in the "Screen Refresh Rate" field.
Step 5
First of all, use a marker to mark the "Hide modes that the monitor cannot use" box. If you set it to the wrong value, it may cause hardware malfunction. Use the drop-down list to set a new value, click on the "Apply" button and close the window.
Step 6
You can view or change the refresh rate of the monitor screen in another way. In the window for managing the settings of your video card, select the Change resolution command. As a rule, the option to change the screen refresh rate is also available in the window with the resolution settings.
