A defective pressure roller in the printer can cause unpleasant sounds and print defects. Meanwhile, the procedure for replacing the shaft is not difficult, therefore it can be done by hand.

Necessary

  • - Set of screwdrivers;
  • - Pliers;
  • - New shaft;

Instructions

Step 1

The main reason for the failure of the pressure roll of the fuser is the aging of the thermal film and the sticking of rubber to the bare metal of the heating element. Also, the shaft can be damaged if paper with staples passes through it. The surface must be perfectly smooth, otherwise defects, streaks or small spots will appear during printing. Abrasion of the metal guides of the rubber shaft is also possible. It is quite easy to determine this malfunction: when printing, you hear a creak and rattle, the printer jams when the paper passes.

Step 2

To fix the problem, you will need to remove the fuser, also called an oven, from the printer. This device is usually located at the back of the printer, just below the paper feed tray. Unplug the printer and disassemble the rear mounting plate. Usually it is fastened with several self-tapping screws, but in some models it can be installed with latches.

Step 3

When the oven is accessible, it should be removed. First you need to disconnect the power and control wires by disconnecting the terminals with the plastic case. The oven is bolted to the main frame of the printer with several self-tapping screws. It is possible to have rotary plastic clips. In any case, it will not be superfluous to first familiarize yourself with the operating instructions, which indicate the placement of components in the printer and the procedure for their dismantling.

Step 4

Remove all plastic parts from the fuser that are secured with screws. The oven cover closes access to the heating element and the rubber roller, so it will need to be removed. There are springs under the cover, so you need to hold it when unscrewing the screws and disconnecting the metal latches. When the cover is removed, you need to untangle the wires going to the heater and remove it by pulling it out of the horn guides. Directly under the heating element is a rubber shaft, which needs to be replaced.

Step 5

The shaft is installed in the grooves of the metal body without additional fixation, so it will not be difficult to get it. It is necessary to remove the drive gear from the end of the shaft and install it on a new shaft. After that, the body and parts of the fuser must be cleaned of residual toner, install the shaft and check the alignment of the teeth on the gears. Next, the heating element is installed and the fuser and printer are assembled in the reverse order. To test a new roller, you need to pass several sheets of paper of different thicknesses and weights through the printer, and then carry out a test print.
