Instructions

Step 1

There are two styles of skiing - skating and classic. Naturally, equipment for each type of ski needs individual equipment.

Step 2

A feature of classic skis is the softness of their sliding on the snow. In classic skiing, the push is carried out due to the frictional force that occurs between the snow track and the ski block. It is important to note that skis of this type must be long and pointed.

Step 3

Skating skis are hard. When skating, the block springs and pushes the skier forward. Such skis have a blunt, not bent toe, and their length exceeds a person's height by 19 cm. You can check how skating skis fit you as follows: put them vertically, with sliding surfaces towards each other, put your hands on the pads and squeeze them tightly. If there is a gap of 3-4 mm between the skis, then they are suitable for you. If the clearance is 1-2 mm, then such skis are too soft for skating.

Step 4

It is worth mentioning the material from which the skis are made. You can purchase plastic or wooden ones. The advantages of plastic skis are their lightness, thanks to which they can be great to move along the track and mountain serpentines. Choose plastic skis if you are skating. Another advantage of such skis is that they do not need to be constantly lubricated; they can be used to move even in melted snow. You should also pay attention to the presence of a grooved surface on plastic skis. You will have to get used to this feature during the first ride.

Step 5

Wooden skis will be much cheaper than plastic skis. But before you get on the track, they need to be well tarred so that they serve for a long time.

Step 6

When choosing skis, much attention should be paid to boots. Ski boots for skating should be high, rigid, with shin and foot fixation. Low ones are only suitable for classic skis. The size of the boot should be the same as the size of the foot, no stocks are needed for woolen socks. Modern ski boots are very warm, soft and designed to be worn with one regular toe.

Step 7

When choosing ski poles, pay attention to their weight. The lighter, the more comfortable riding will be. The strongest, lightest, and relatively inexpensive are fiberglass poles. Their height should be less than the height of a person by an average of 15-20 cm.

Step 8

When choosing skis for a child, take into account his weight and height. Shoes for the baby should match his foot size and sit on the leg as comfortable as possible.
