Instructions

Step 1

Choose the style you will be skating. There are two styles: classic and skating (free). The classic style is the movement of skis parallel to each other along a track. The push forward occurs due to the frictional force between the block and the snow at the moment of push. Therefore, soft skis are used here. In the skating style, the skier pushes like a skater, with the edge. It uses stiff skis that work like a spring that pushes the skier at the moment of push. For two different styles of skiing, the sporting equipment looks different: the skis for the classic style have sharper and longer noses, and they themselves are long; and for free-style skis, the noses are more blunt, and the center of gravity is shifted by 2.5 cm.

Step 2

Select the purpose of purchasing the skis, and with it the price category. There are several types. Professional - the most modern, lightweight and expensive - big sports equipment. Amateur ones are also sports, but not as expensive and not as light as professional ones; suitable for regular sports. Tourist - for long walks in the forest; sometimes there are notches to prevent skis from slipping (the hardest, widest and heaviest). Walking tours - suitable for leisurely walks in the park; also with notches, wide, but lighter than tourist ones. Children - specially balanced for the strength and weight of children. They come with a fastener for a regular boot with the ability to adjust.

Step 3

Choose the material from which your future sports equipment is made. There are two types of material: wood and plastic. Today, wooden skis are sold in few places. The thing is that plastic has many advantages - it is lightweight, does not exfoliate, does not get wet, and does not need to be lubricated for sliding.

Step 4

Choose the length and rigidity of the equipment for yourself. For skis for classic skiing, the length should be equal to the distance from the floor to half of the palm of an outstretched arm, and for skating style, 10 cm must be subtracted from the resulting length of classic skis. There are tables for selecting lengths by height and weight. Skating-style skis should be firm enough so that the foot does not push the snow during the push. Classic skis are: for dry and soft snow (softer), for hard and wet snow (harder). Children's skis must be bought soft and in size, and not for growth, because the longer they are, the stiffer they are.
