When decorating an apartment during repairs, it is often necessary to mount plasterboard elements of various shapes. In such cases, it becomes necessary to bend the drywall. There are several ways to bend this material, the choice in each case is determined by the thickness of the sheet, the complexity of the shape and the availability of suitable tools at hand.
Necessary
- - a strip of plasterboard;
- - a sharp knife;
- - a special roller (perforator);
- - water;
- - clean rags.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the drywall strip you want to bend. The larger the bend radius, the easier it will be to bend the strip. Wide stripes are more difficult to bend than narrow stripes. Sometimes it is better to divide one wide strip into two or three narrow ones and then mount them separately, filling the seams.
Step 2
The easiest way is to give the material the desired shape when it comes to creating concave surfaces; bumps are more of a hassle. Place a drywall plate against the desired location and slowly push it into the cavity. In this case, the assistant fixes the ends of the strip with self-tapping screws. Then the workpiece is screwed on more thoroughly along its entire length.
Step 3
When finishing with plasterboard convex shapes, fix the strip in only one place, and then step by step, step by step and gradually bend the strip, attaching it as the shape changes.
Step 4
The situation is more complicated with small radius bends. Without preliminary preparation, the strip can be easily broken. Pre-make small cuts on the back of the sheet at a distance of about 4-5 cm from each other. The slots should not be too deep so that the drywall does not break, and the parts of the material should be securely connected to each other.
Step 5
When bending large areas of drywall strips, you will need a special spiked roller (perforator). Lightly moisten the surface of the material in the place of the intended bend, covering it with wet rags. Now go over the fold with a roller so that small holes appear in this place. Then gradually bend the sheet, trying to give it the required curvature. Mount the curved strip in the desired place, securely attached to the base.
Step 6
When mounting a curved sheet, follow a specific sequence of actions. You should not wait until the strip bent by one of the described methods "hardens", taking the desired shape. Attach the drywall to the base immediately while the bend is still moist and pliable. If this condition is not met, then material fractures are possible. Proceed gradually, trying to avoid abrupt changes in the structure of the material.
