Even 300 years ago, the effectiveness of seed dressing before planting was proven. When agriculture became more intensive, this operation reached an industrial scale.
Instructions
Step 1
At home, you can use the simplest and most effective etching method: a manganese solution. For these purposes, you will need to prepare a 1-2% solution. The main criterion in dressing is to achieve uniform wetting of all seeds. The stuck together seeds are rubbed with fingers, carefully separated. As practical observations show, tomato seeds are most susceptible to sticking, therefore, before dressing, you can spread them on gauze, and cover with another layer on top and dress under such conditions so as not to spend a lot of time separating the seeds.
Step 2
For seeds of different crops, it is more effective to use a solution of different concentration levels and different temperatures. A solution of manganese 1%, the temperature of which is 20-22 ° C, is used on the seeds of tomatoes, radishes, physalis, celery, peas, beans, onions, beans and corn. The residence time of the seeds in the solution should be at least 45 minutes.
Step 3
For crops such as cabbage, carrots, dill, pumpkins, eggplants, peppers and parsnips, soaking the seeds for 20 minutes in a 2% manganese solution, the temperature of which is 20-25 ° C, will be more effective. After any type of dressing, the seeds are immediately washed with water and only then are they planted.
Step 4
If potassium permanganate seems to be an ineffective and frivolous preparation for dressing seeds, you can use factory analogues, following the instructions and making sure that children and pets do not come into contact with the substance. The chemicals used for this procedure protect plants from infection with pathogenic microflora at the very beginning of growth and development, but if handled carelessly, they can harm a person. The disinfectants destroy the very beginning of the disease - mycelium or spores or bacteria, and then, in the soil, create a zone that protects young shoots from mold and root rot.
Step 5
In the composition of the disinfectants, substances are used that have a fungicidal or bactericidal effect, and sometimes both of them at once. The composition may also include insecticides and herbicides, so these preparations should be used with great care at home. It is safer to use ordinary potassium permanganate. Industrial dressing agents are effective against diseases that rarely appear on a summer cottage or on a windowsill at home. If use is nevertheless necessary, all possible safety measures must be taken.
