For the full use of Russian documents abroad, a notarized translation is often not enough. When you arrive there, the official authorities of another country may require you to obtain an apostille for documents. But how can you do this?
Necessary
- - the passport;
- - money to pay for notary services.
Instructions
Step 1
Find out if your documents really need to be apostilled. The fact is that such a seal is a simplified form of legalization of documents, and it is not accepted in all countries. If you are going to move to any country for permanent residence, consult the embassy of that country. Usually an apostille is required when registering citizenship or marriage, that is, it must be affixed to a birth certificate and, if available, a divorce certificate. certification of a Russian diploma may also be required. At the same time, a foreign passport does not require any additional legalization.
Step 2
Decide how you want to apostille. The seal itself can be placed on a certified copy or on the original document. In either case, such an apostille will have legal force.
Step 3
Contact a notary public. Explain to him that you want to legalize the document with an apostille. Pay for his services. Check that the apostille has been made in at least two languages so that its text is understandable in the country where you are traveling. The text can be in French or English.
Step 4
After setting the seal, you can transfer the document to a certified translator to create a translation of the text into a foreign language. At the same time, remember that for official status, the translated document must also contain the translation of the apostille, and subsequently be certified by a notary.
Step 5
If you are not in Russia at the moment, the apostille can be affixed to you at the Russian embassy in the host country. This may cost you more money than a notary in your homeland, but it will save you time if you are not planning to travel to Russia anytime soon. At the same time, keep in mind that it may take several working days to issue an apostille, so you should contact the embassy in advance.
